Why was the Senior Cup Final not played at Thomond Park? I know things have changed over the last few years but you would imagine that any team getting to a provincial final should be allowed to play the final at Thomond Park - or Musgrave Park if that were more suitable? Fine ground though it is, I don't see much of an "occasion" at Clifford Park....

The pitch in TP didn't look great on tv the other night. That may be the reason. It was also the day following a big ML game in Thomond so there may have been logistical difficulties in having it ready for the Sunday.

'Logistical Difficulties' my hole... open the west and east terraces, the bohs bar, Shannon's club house and some toilets. Stewards required for minimal gates and terrace areas.
They were billing it as "the most important day in Munster Club Rugby's domestic calendar", yet the branch wouldn't give the teams the privilege of playing at Thomond.

It was a shame, although Young Munster's were good hosts as ever.

I doff my cap to your expertise at running large stadia. The pitch was still looking s**tty though. Two matches within 24 hours at the depth of winter wouldn't have done it any good.

Well if the senior and junior club finals have to be elsewhere due to pitch issues etc for one year then not so bad - but only if it is for one year.

Surely the branch recognise that one of the highlights of reaching any club final is the often rare opportunity to actually play on the hallowed turf.

They have recognised this and it has been discussed but the venue is owned by the IRFU and their head grounds man has put a limit on the amount of games to be played there this year. The matter is to be re-visited in August I believe. The branch have no call in the games to be allowed there this year.

Thanks for that Lebowski - but somehow I can't see some guy based in Ballsbridge giving two sh*ites about where the Webb Cup Final is played - never mind the Senior Cup Final....

It's the IRFU's groundmans decision and he is southern based.

When the trophy was being presented they said it would be
back in either Musgrave or Thomond next year, also said
something about protecting thomond park this year. Pitch
did look a bit off the night before.

Anyway I'm sure they would have charged me a hell of a
lot more than €1 for a cup of tea in Thomond Park smileys/smile.gif
