I now have the new Red Army Flag which will make it's first appearance in Thomond Park on Saturday next, weather permitting. In addition to the flag a Munsterfans banner has been purchased as well as a new megaphone to replace the one that went missing in action in Cardiff. If anyone is interested the relevent financial details are as follows:

Contributions towards the flag amounted to Euro 2,227.25. There were a total of 82 individual contributors including 3 honorary contributors Hugsie, Ozoyo and Point. There was one corporate contribution from Dolanspub.com. When the original flags were purchased Mick Dolan dug deep to make up a shortfall and as a thank you it was appropriate we took more of his money.

The cost of the Red Army Flag and Banner amounted to Euro 1,941.02 inc. of VAT at 19.6% and the megaphone cost Euro 168 inclusive of VAT at 21%. The balance of Euro 118.02 will help pay the bill for the transport of the flag and banner from Paris (about Euro 150 )and bank charges (if any) on the funds transfer to pay for the flag.

A number of contributors paid in Sterling , conversion resulted in an odd total.

Rob, have you sorted this out already, possibly might be able to transport this FOC if it can be dropped at a depot in North Paris. Let me know if you need help on this.

Flag and banner are already here. It was a bit of a rush job as they were only ready on 4th December and we were anxious to have the flag fly to-morrow.

Thanks for the offer.

An update on costs.

My bank have not charged a fee for the transfer and the carriage of the flag from France worked out at €115 inclusive of VAT so we have a surplus of €3.02.

Surely both should have been purchasedthrough the MB so the VAT would have been reclaimable?

Methinks your assumption is incorrect and so your suggestion flawed.

If your assumption were correct then the revenue that would be passed to MB would also be subject to VAT - at a higher rate than French rate so the situation would be worse in terms of value for donations received.

Creative thinking there - albeit predicated on a false asumption!

Anyway, it's too late now!

The Red Army flag has been flown at 3 HEC games this season. It was surfed the length of the East Terrace yesterday as it was for our home game with Clermont and it was also flown in the Ricoh for the away game v Wasps..

It has also been surfed twice this season at Magners League games in Cork, those v Edinburgh and Leinster.
